Hi Eva Fans

I just joined this tribe... wondering who all is here and what your background is with Eva's music.

I discovered Eva through a former roommate in 2000. He was playing "Live at Blues Alley" and I heard her sing familiar songs like I had never heard them sung before. He let me borrow the CD... he's lucky he ever got it back. :)

I then went on Napster (when it was the OLD Napster) and found tons of Eva. I was hooked.

I now own all of her albums and plan on getting "Wonderful World" which was just released, even though it contains songs I already have.

If Eva had lived, I think she could have been an immense star. But she never really ever wanted that. She just wanted to sing. And she obviously loved to do that.

And since she is, sadly, gone, aren't we lucky for that?

Each time I listen to her sing, I know I am listening to an angel sing. Every single time.

Hey there! I found Eva just a month ago. I am an internet DJ and I was looking for some new material. After seeing Eva Cassidy on everyone's music list I decided to d/l some of her music to see what the fuss was all about. I cried as I played the song over and over and over again. In fact, my husband calls it the crying song now =7 . It is amazing how many people ask me who she is when I am DJ-ing. They simply love her and they cry along with me. I feel cheated for not having heard her in concert. You may ask what the song was that has elicite so much emotion? Somewhere Over the Rainbow...of course.

I also just joine the group. I saw some kind of cable TV program in 2001 about this female singer, Eva. Her voice mesmerized me and haunted me. I remembered how she sang. I spent the next couple of months trying to find CD's and bought all of them. She knew how to interpret songs that were special to her. She brought the words and music into her heart and back out her throat. Her picks were favorites of mine for years.

Anybody here see her live? I sure would like your account.

    -Hey Joe

I bet it was amazing to be able to watch Eva Cassidy as she sang. Lucky you! I am so jealous! =) Isn't it funny how when you do hear her for the first time you feel compelled to get her music into your collection? All of my converts have done the same thing as you and Blake. I have found 9 CD's by her, they are American Tunes, Eva by Heart, Imagine, Live at Blues Alley, Method Actor, No Boundaries, Other Side, Songbird and Time After Time.

The first time I ever heard Eva's "Fields of Gold" was when Michelle Kwan used it for her closing exhibition (Olympic Figure Skating 2001), after losing the gold medal for the second time to a 15-year old. It was a tearful event and the haunting rendition of a song we all remember Sting singing, sent chills through me.

I am a big fan of figure skating and I believe it was a competition in May of 2002 in which Michele Kwan did a program to "Fields of Gold." All I knew was that I loved it. So I looked up who sang it. This was a slower version so I didn't recognize it as Sting's. I bought Live At Blues Alley and she is so amazing. Months ago, I was lucky enough to find Songbird in a thrift store for $2, in mint condition.
The girl had soul. Pure soul. And that's what makes her so great.

Her version of "Songbird" is absolutely beautiful. The original version is wonderful but I love her version even better.

Songbird is my favorite by her too - but of course EVERYTHING she did was so beautiful. Ever heard her rendition of At Last?

I first heard Eva on an episode of Smallville where they played her version of Time After Time. Her voice moved me so much, that I've memorized every song of every CD since. If only she could make more. How lucky the world was to have her while we did.

Well, this thread was from forever ago, but I'm new to the whole tribe deal. :-) I was introduced to Eva by a friend at work who had heard her live while she was living in D.C. I was immediately in love - LOVE! Bought a ton of albums and have been listening ever since. She is the best thing to wake up to in the morning! <3

I discovered Eva through my father about three years ago. The first song I heard was her cover of "Fields of Gold" and fell in love with her music. She has one of the most wonderful voices I have ever heard. Love her to death.

I found Eva in a similar sort of way and I too first downloaded her "Over the Rainbow" via Napstar prior to it shutting down and when it was all free.
Another real favourite track of hers for me is the arrangement of "Autumn Leaves"

That was the first song i fell in love with too, I was naturally heartbroken at the time.

Whenever i feel down or have negative feelings for some reason I just listen to the entire albun "Songbird". I go through so many emotions listening to that and by the end, after the last tone in "Somwhere over the rainbow" i feel good again. Full of joy, hope and positivity. Good trick. Saved my day more than once! :)
